On May 11, 2026, the 72nd meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Telecommunications Working Group was held in Shanghai. Xiong Jijun, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. Delegations from the digital and information communication authorities of APEC member economies participated in the meeting.
As the primary channel for promoting information and communication technology (ICT) and digital cooperation under the APEC framework, the APEC Telecommunications Working Group has played a positive role in advancing the development and application of ICT, digital, and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the Asia-Pacific region. It is hoped that this meeting will further consolidate consensus, deepen cooperation, and jointly facilitate continuous new achievements in digital and AI cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, thereby contributing to promoting regional cooperation and common prosperity in the Asia-Pacific.
The APEC Telecommunications Working Group was established in 1990, aiming to promote trade facilitation and facilitate exchanges and cooperation in policy and technology within the telecommunications sector in the Asia-Pacific region, in alignment with the overall objectives of APEC.
The heads of relevant departments and subordinate units of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology attended the meeting.
